An innovative heating project using ground source heat pumps to provide a total heating and hot water solution for almost 200 flats in London, has been judged Highly Commended at the Housing Excellence Awards.
The Exeter Road Ground Source Heating Project used ECO funding to enable the local council to replace a mix of ageing storage heaters and a district underfloor heating system with individual ground source heat pumps in almost 200 flats across four tower blocks.
Each heat pump is individually linked to a bespoke wireless network, which enables remote monitoring of usage and performance as well as the ability to diagnose any potential issues.
In addition to receiving ECO funding for the project, the local council will also be able to generate an ongoing income stream via Renewable Heat Incentive payments, which they will receive for the next twenty years.
This is the second time in as many months that the project has been recognised with an award having won the Regional Large Scale Project of the Year gong at the Greater London Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Awards in April.
