Bedfordshire Air Source Heat Pump Project - Case Study 1

Property type: 2-bedroom property in a Bedfordshire village location.

Product installed: 8.5kW Air Source Heat Pump with matched hot water tank

Distribution system: Suitably sized radiator system

Installation date: December 2010

Funding secured: Funding of approximately £2,500 secured by Ice Energy.

A housing association with over 16,000 properties in their housing stock approached Ice Energy with whom they had previously worked, to discuss the renewable energy options available for a range of properties in a Bedfordshire village.

This particular property benefitted from one of Ice Energy's air source heat pumps which replaced the previous electric heating system. The Air Source Heat Pump was installed with a matched hot water tank and will provide all the heating and hot water demanded for the property.

The husband and wife tenants at the property who were initially sceptical about the heat pump, have been delighted with their  new central heating system and have happily supplied the following feedback:

"We are really pleased with how warm the house is compared to the previous system, so much so we have recommended it to people living in private houses in the village. Our heating bill is almost half and now ALL of the house is warm with no cold spots."

"We need to move to a bigger house but I really don't want to lose this heating so being on the mutual exchange, the first question I ask is what type of heating there is in the prospective property!"

"The temperature is set to a very warm and comfortable 21°C."
